AP SCORES 2010
Congratulations to my students that recorded a collective set of scores that were the best ever for a group that I have taught. The 34 students scored 31 "5's" and 3 "4's" for an average score of 4.91! A tremendous amount of hard work went into that, and the students deserve the credit. You can see my class results over the years here. In other score news, The College Board have reported the following average scores for the 2010 exam; Q1 (3.7), Q2 (4.3), Q3 (4.0), Q4 (9.0), Q5 (4.1), Q6 (3.4). The obvious stand-out is the high score on Q4 which really reflected a painfully easy Net Ionic Equation Writing in '10. AP teachers can download this information in their AP Instructional Planning Reports from the College Board website.

CHANGES TO AP CHEM EXAM
News from the AP Annual Conference
As part of the ongoing discussions about changes to the AP Chem exam, the following came out of discussions at the recent national conference;

  • The earliest we can expect changes are for the 2014 exam
  • The following topics remain on the chopping block for possible elimination; quantum numbers, Lewis Acid/Base theory, Nernst equation, molality, colligative properties, phase diagrams and more!
  • The CB wants to move to a greater emphasis on inquiry labs. There's a little more "official" info, here but things still a long way removed from being set in stone

AP Chemistry Workshop Concludes
2010 Workshop wraps up
On Wednesday 21st of July we completed the second Center For Teaching, Summer AP Workshop @ The Westminster Schools in Atlanta, GA. Five delegates joined us from three states, and we covered a multitude of topics related to the AP chemistry exam. Topics discussed included "The Big Five", TAPCTEW, APCLAM, Sharing Labs, Multiple-Choice Analysis, Common Misconceptions and many others. Look out for next summers' program to be advertised early in 2011.
